People need to form their own views about this. Some people would prefer to see the money spent on such problems. Other people believe that humankind's ability to solve these problems depends mainly on economic prosperity. If spending and investing on space can create profitable industries, they in turn may generate money to meet social needs and help fund government responsibilities.
