Liv Arnesen

Educator, polar explorer and sportswoman Liv Arnesen was born in Baerum, Norway on the outskirts of Oslo. Liv has taught for more than ten years at an Oslo college and has also been involved in rehabilitation work with drug addicts. She has competed in orienteering and cross-country skiing events and has spent many Arctic summers as a guide for Spitsbergen Travel. In 1994, Liv was the first woman to ski solo and unsupported to the South Pole, a 50-day expedition of more than 700 miles. She has also crossed the Greenland ice cap on skis and has attempted Everest on the Tibetan side. In 2001, Liv and American Ann Bancroft became the first team of women to ski across Antarctica's landmass.
