GLOMR (Global Low Orbiting Message Relay Satellite) was a US Department of Defense satellite deployed from the STS 61-A shuttle mission. It was developed by DSI (now CTA) and Rockwell for the US Military. It was designed to demonstrated the ability to read out, store, and forward data from remote ground-based sensors. The satellite was first scheduled for deployment from STS-51B, but a battery problem forced a return to Earth for repair. The satellite reentered the Earth's atmosphere after 14 months.
