Originally founded as a member organisation of the United States Rocket Society, the Chicago Rocket Society was officially founded in 1946.

Members included:

Norman Bowman: President

Will Chilcote: Vice President/Treasurer

George Whittington: Secretary

Patricia Crossley: Librarian

Wayne Proell: Editor

Meetings were held monthly at Roosevelt College

Journals included: The Journal of Space Flight devoted to research and information about space travel and The Rocket News Letter devoted to news and events of the society. Both were published monthly.
