ARTIST CONCEPT: illustrating The Small Astronomy Satellite. This series of the SAS has three missions under development. The first, SAS-A scheduled for launch during the second half of 1070, is designed to survey the celestial sphere for X-ray sources and provide data for a basic X-ray star catalog. The SAS-C, also an X-ray mission, is scheduled for launch in 1072. It will perform detailed observations. The SAS-B mission, to be flown in 1971, has been designed to perform a highly systematic search for celestial gamma ray sources.
