A view of a completed colony is shown as approached from the Moon. This artist's concept depicts a habitat in which the central cylinder is 32 kilometers (19 miles) long and 6400 (4 miles) in diameter. This concept of a space colony orbiting at the Moon's distance from Earth has been suggested by Dr. Gerald K. O'Neill of Princeton University, who, with a group of university and NASA experts, conducted a recent two week study on such colonies at Ames Research Center in Mountain View, VA.
