STS-38 was the 7th Atlantis flight with Richard Covey, Robert Springer, Carl Meade, Frank Culbertson, and Charles Gemer on board. This was a US Department of Defense mission. Scheduled to land at Edwards AFB after a four-day flight, Atlantis was rerouted to Kennedy Space Center due to high winds and rain at the California site. The landing was delayed one day in the hopes that conditions at Edwards would improve. The shuttle touched down at 21:42, November 20, after 80 orbits and 4 days, 21 hrs, 54 mns in space.
