Flying in space based on a per passenger mile basis as recorded by the airline industry is hundreds to thousands of times safer than flying on a plane. But flying on a plane is one hundred times safer than driving a car. Of course, flying on a plane is much more expensive than driving, and flying in space is millions of times more expensive than flying on a plane.
