Clouds usually cover up a lot of what you can see of the Earth from space. When you watch the TV weather programs, the presenters show us where the clouds are. But underneath the clouds, the US looks just like it does on a map, bounded by the oceans. Of course, you cannot see any lines that show where the state boundaries are. You cannot even see where the boundaries with Mexico and Canada are. Boundaries disappear when you see the world from space.
