Depending on the size and complexity of the rocket ship, there may be thousands of parts. They are usually grouped by systems, such as structures; propulsion; electrical power generation and distribution; avionics; life support systems; thermal protection system, like heat shields; robotics and so forth. These systems may be broken down into subsystems. For example, avionics may be divided into displays and controls (in the cockpit); data processing (computers, data busses, storage devices); communications (radios, lasers); instrumentation (guidance, navigation, control and landing aids).
