[edit] Abstract

In the course of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, the Soviet Union and then Russia provided significant help for the first space programme of a developing nation, India. This paper provides details of that assistance, evaluates the relationship between the two countries during the period and assesses the benefits to both parties.
