Steve Hammond

Steve Hammond studied computer programming at the University of Maine (GO BLACKBEARS!), currently works as a project manager at an insurance company in Massachusetts (BORING!), and is a true amateur astronomer (COOL!). While astronomy always seemed interesting, his passion really ignited when the Comet Hale-Bopp fascinated the whole world in 1997. By 2002 he had ground a mirror by hand (HARD WORK!) and built his own telescope. Now, as a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Solar System Ambassador, Steve's real focus is on outreach—bringing his love for space and exploration to kids and the community (FUN!). This book won't answer all of your questions (SORRY!). Hopefully, instead, it will lead to more questions. Don't let them go unanswered! Ask your teachers. Ask a local astronomy club. Find the answer and then ask some more questions (LEARN!).
