Economically, almost any profitable activity that is not destructive should help the communities engaged in it. Space travel, in particular, has many benefits because it employs people with technical skills, encouraging them to get and use an education. Space travel itself is risky, for now, but the more we experiment and learn the safer— and cheaper—it will become.
