Astronauts who have returned from a spacewalk have commented on the funny smell of ionized air or ozone that seems to accompany them inside and lingers on their spacesuits. Astronaut Peggy Whitson described the smell of her suit as "a little harsh, bitter smelling!" She also noted that it was very distinctive and smelled smoky and burnt to her because she was not familiar with how ozone or ionized air smelled.
