A medical emergency in space would be managed by the astronaut on board who is trained in first aid and medical management. This person is designated crew medical officer and would be aided by communications with flight surgeons and medical specialists on the ground. An astronaut with a life threatening condition and able to be moved would be evacuated to Earth for treatment.
