There are many more galaxies outside of ours. By studying galaxies and their gravitational effects on each other we can predict that there are many more galaxies than there are stars in our galaxy—400 billion. Andromeda and the Triangulum are the two galaxies closest to us. These galaxies, plus our own, are part of the 35 galaxies that form what we call the Local Group. The Local Group, in turn, is part of the Virgo Supercluster which contains around 100 similar groups of galaxies. The largest of these groups has about 2,000 galaxies in it.
