When we first encounter life in outer space we will need to be sure it is truly a life form. We might not even know it is alive because it will be very different. We will touch it, watch it and study the new life as we try to understand how it moves, eats and reproduces. Only after that would we try to communicate with it. But remember, it might be studying us too!
