Space is a vacuum and therefore no sound occurs because sound waves require atmosphere to travel. There is no atmosphere in space. You need a spacesuit to survive and some sort of radio to talk to others who are also in spacesuits. Inside the spaceship, we have a manmade atmosphere, and communication is normal because sound can travel in air.
