This very important procedure has varied with space programs. On Skylab, the Shuttle, and the ISS, air is used like we use water in the bathrooms in your home. For Number One, air is drawn into a funnel like receptacle that is placed on the body—it works for both men and women. It works great and there are sanitary covers placed on the funnel head by each user. Because it is held in place there is no worry about zero-gravity or weightlessness.
