You would maintain contact and communications with family and friends just like the astronauts who are on the ISS and on the Space Shuttle do right now. They use e-mail to communicate back and forth with their families and friends as well as two ISS telephones that allow the crewmembers to call anywhere in the world. According to Air Force Lt. Col. Mike Fincke, an Expedition 9 crewmember on the ISS from April to October 2004, the phone was the most important thing NASA did for crew morale. Mike's wife had a child during his stay on the ISS, and he was able to call his family twice a day. And finally, we also have the capability to fax information from the ground to the crew or from the crew to the ground.
