07. I wouldn't want to blow up or die in outer space! Can we make safer and more reliable shuttles and rocket ships and prevent disasters from happening? (A K2S Question)

You are not likely to die as a result of space travel! In addition, NASA has spent the last two years working to make the Shuttle as safe as it can be. Many changes have been made during that time. Some of those changes will reduce the chance of problems during launch. Other changes make the Space Shuttle tougher. Other changes will help watch for any signs of problems. Also, the President's Exploration Vision calls for the creation of a new vehicle that is ten times safer than the current one.
