There are a number of companies planning holidays in space. One of them, Virgin Galactic, plans to use a craft based on SpaceShipOne, the first commercial space transportation system. This would involve just a sub-orbital hop into space and would take a few hours with a small section of the trip in space itself. There are also companies which sell trips on the International Space Station (ISS). Other companies such as Space Adventures are planning for future trips to private space stations with trips lasting one to two weeks. The time constraints for human missions into space are shaped by cost, fuel, supplies, and of course the effects that weightlessness and the space environment have on the human body. Space agencies across the world are working to combat the effects of space to allow astronauts to spend longer in space and ultimately to allow them to travel on long journeys to other planets.
