In space construction we try to simplify our design by making things in standard or modular sizes. Having different sizes of space modules will mean customized engineering and manufacturing, and that will drive up costs. A great thing about building modules of standard sizes is that you can connect them together like building blocks. The modules will be approximately the same size because they will have to fit inside a rocket to get into space. Once several modules are docked together, the space station could grow according to need, including the number of guests staying on board at any given time. It is possible that as many as 150 people could be guests on board an orbiting or planet-based space station.
