Most likely. Hydroponic gardening is one of the most efficient and productive methods for transporting nutrients and oxygen to the plant roots, and therefore increases productivity. The more productive a plant growth system, the smaller the habitat needed to support a human crew in space. The smaller the habitat, the less expensive it is to build and transport, and the less work it requires to maintain.
