10. Can a spaceship travel farther in space than to the Moon? How far from Earth could a spaceship go? (A K2S Question)
From The Space Library
If a spaceship carries no crew, then it can eventually go right outside of the solar system, and the only problem is having enough power to keep on going. Nuclear generators are best for very long journeys where the Sun's energy is no longer powerful enough. When there is a crew on board, then there is an extra problem in being able to supply enough food, water and oxygen for them to breathe, and people are figuring out how to do this in preparation for the Mars missions.
