Space law is derived not from aviation law, but from maritime or admiralty law. On the high seas, the law that applies to us is the law that governs the nation where our ship is registered or flagged. If we are traveling or working on a ship on the high seas that is flagged to the United States, then American law applies. If we are traveling or working on a ship on the high seas that is flagged on the Isle of Man, then the laws of the Isle of Man apply. And if we are traveling or working or even living on a spaceship or space station that is registered to the US or the Isle of Man, or any other country under whose flag we are operating, then the laws of that nation apply to us and our work.
