Luckily, that's something we don't have to worry about. Apollo astronauts left special instruments on the Moon, and a special laser at the McDonald Observatory in western Texas bounces a laser off these instruments. Careful measurement of the results has shown us that the Moon is moving slowly away from us, at about 1.5 inches per year. http://www.nasa.gov/worldbook/moon_worldbook.html (See CDROM)
