Like Earth, Mars has four seasons, but each one lasts twice as long. Because the orbit of Mars is elliptical, the temperature can change greatly with the seasons. The surface temperature can rise to about 70° F or drop to nearly -220° F. Unfortunately, while temperatures rise during spring, this warm season may not be the best time to visit Mars because it is also the time when vast dust storms cover the Martian surface.
