The situation you need to train for most is an emergency. In the event of an emergency, just like in your drills at school, you need to know exactly what to do, almost by heart. You will rehearse all of the procedures for normal operations and learn what to do in an emergency. For your launch training, you learn what to do if your spacecraft has a problem and isn't going to make it all the way into space. Your in-space drills will prepare you for problems that could happen once you are weightless. Training for landing will focus on what to do if your landing gear or parachutes don't work correctly.
