With current technology it would take a very long time to reach the nearest galaxy. Andromeda is two million light years away, which means it takes light (which travels at 186,000 miles per second!) two million years to get there. Assuming that a spacecraft carrying humans travels at about three miles per second, it would take approximately 120,000,000,000 (120 billion) years to travel there! Humans will only be able to consider traveling distances this vast once a new form of technology makes it possible to travel faster than the speed of light.
