The Voyager 1 space probe is traveling at 38,400 mph and is more than 8.83 billion miles away from the Sun. Launched in 1977, it is the man-made object most distant from Earth. If you had a spaceship that could keep you alive and protected, and you left Earth while fairly young, you could perhaps make it twice that far in a lifetime. However, even traveling in a straight line at the speed of Voyager 1, it would take over 80,000 years to reach the closest star.
