23. Is the Universe expanding or contracting? (A K2S Question)

Dr. Edwin Hubble discovered that the Universe was expanding at the same time he discovered that the spiral nebulae he was studying were really galaxies. He discovered that they were moving away from us so fast that their light was stretched in what is called red shift. This discovery was also early evidence that Einstein's theory of general relativity was correct.
