If you ask someone what scares them, most would say that they are frightened by something surprising or unknown to them. Astronauts train very hard to get better at the jobs that they are expected to perform in space, and as a result this helps reduce some of the apprehension or fear that anyone would naturally feel about going someplace far away. Being prepared and well trained is the best way to make things less scary. And astronauts routinely train for contingencies that might come up and cause them problems. This gives them even more self-confidence in being able to handle any type of unforeseen problem that might occur and helps reduce the risk of danger on any space mission.
