Yes. NASA considers safety the most important thing in operating the Shuttle because spaceflight is inherently dangerous. Safety is assured by a comprehensive verification program that includes analysis, inspection, demonstration, and testing, starting with the smallest part and continuing until the total Shuttle is assembled. This series of verification activities as the vehicle is assembled is carefully planned to provide the utmost confidence that the Shuttle will fly safely.
