We do live in space! Our perspective from low Earth orbit has showed that Earth is a small fragile ecosystem that must be valued and protected for the benefit of all human kind. Our rotating globe navigates itself in a yearly orbit around a star we call our Sun, which is located two-thirds of the way from the center of a galaxy called the Milky Way. Just as human beings needed to explore their own home world by charting every continent on the globe, we too must go forward and begin to find our way with small steps into our local solar system, to gain knowledge from our ever-changing cosmic perspective. Our world will eventually end, but it would be nice to preserve our home planet for as long as we can, using some of the insights we have gained from our first steps into nearby space.
