In its year-end accounts, as compiled by Arthur C. Clarke, the BIS showed a net positive balance of £50 6/4. Over £22 of this was a single donation to the research fund. Based on the subscription revenues the active membership must have been between 70 and 100 people at this time.

Juvenile magazine "Modern Wonder" features the BIS lunar spacecraft but credits it to German rocket pioneer Hermann Oberth.
