Gen. Curtis LeMay, USAF Chief of Staff, was quoted as saying: "Eventually I see the development of a manned vehicle that can take off from existing runways, go into orbit, maneuver into a parking orbit, come out of orbit, maneuver while re-entering the earth's atmosphere, and land at any air base in the conventional manner." And Lt. Gen. Roscoe C. Wilson, former USAF DCS/Development , described the futuristic spacecraft as "a winged, manned vehicle which could go from the earth into orbit and return, solely on its own power . . . From our investigations, this concept of a future aerospace vehicle appears feasible, and we look forward to it as a follow-on to the Dyna-Soar [X-20]."
