First turbojet light bomber flight, the German Arado Ar-234B, which was powered by two Junkers .004 engines.

Arthur C. Clarke begins a correspondence with C.S. Lewis regarding the morality of the conquest of space. Lewis takes the position that mankind is not morally or ethically equipped to expand into the cosmos. The exchange continues until early 1954 with several long hiatuses.
