[edit] Abstract

This article briefly outlines the series of Annual Symposia that are organised by the International Space University (ISU) with some emphasis on the most recent event, in February 2011, which addressed the opportunities offered by extending operation of the International Space Station (ISS) to at least 2020. A brief summary is included of ISU's mission and main programmes at the start, and the paper concludes with a very short description of each of the contributions that make up the rest of this issue which were all presented at this year's ISU Symposium.
