The 3rd Annual General Meeting and winter conference of the GfW begins in Stuttgart.

The main events of the conference:

January 26, 1950: Lecture by Professor Dr. Werner Schaub: Das interplanetare Fahrwasser (The interplanetary fairway). The first issue of the GfW magazine Weltraumfahrt is published.

January 27, 1950: Lecture by Ing. Josef Stemmer. Baden (Switzerland): Die Stellung des Ingenieurs zu aktuellen Problemen des Weltraumflugs (The position of the engineer on current problems of space flight).

January 28, 1950: ceremony and presentation of the first "Hermann Oberth Medal".

The Hermann-Oberth Medal was donated by the Society as a special tribute to astronautics, and the commemorative coin had the image of a historical rocket model and the words "Hermann Oberth Medal for merits" on the back, the name of the company and the year of the award ceremony.

The Hermann Oberth silver medal is awarded once a year to a deserved astronautics representative. The Hermann Oberth gold medal is awarded to researchers whose work has significantly promoted space exploration and space travel.

The medal was designed by H. u. B. v. Römer-München. The foundation was made possible by the courtesy of R. Oldenbourg in Munich.
