March 19-23: JSC was host to the 10th annual lunar and planetary science conference or more than 700 scientists from the United States, western Europe, Africa, Australia, and the Soviet Union. The conference had evolved to include reports not only on lunar studies but also on planetary studies and astrophysics. The five-day schedule included a presentation on Pioneer-Venus and on Voyager 1's Jupiter encounter, plus a three-dimensional film on Mars produced during the extended Viking mission.
