Atmosphere researchers urged government science agencies to speed up their evaluation of the large pilotless drone called the Condor, fearing that the aircraft would be scrapped if the government did not buy it. The drone, which cost an estimated $300 million, was built as a prototype spy aircraft for the Pentagon by Boeing Corporation. It can fly more than 20,000 miles with-out refueling. Converting the drone from military to civilian use would cost an estimated $70 to $100 million. (NY Times, Mar 7/93)
