NASA'S newest space communications facility was dedicated in a ceremony at the station site at Robledo de Chavela, Spain. The facility, equipped with a 64-m antenna-one of the world's largest and most sensitive-joined two other Deep Space Network facilities of the Madrid Space Communications Complex. Construction of the installation had begun in 1969 and became operational in the fall of 1973. The Madrid stations were operated for NASA and Jet Propulsion Laboratory by the Institute Nacional de Tecnica Aerospacial under continuing agreements between Spain and the U.S. (NASA Release 74-119; NASA OTDA, interview, 17 March 75)
