Four-stage rocket winched a 9-pound inflatable sphere to 50-mile altitude at NACA Wallops island.
Dr. Abe Silverstein, Associate Director of Lewis Flight Propulsion Laboratory, was transferred to NACA headquarters to help plan the organization mad programs of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, subsequently becoming Director of the Office of Space Flight Programs.
