FBIS said Tass had commented on the upcoming U.S. launch of Pioneer Venus-A, noting that the orbiter's radar resolution would permit it to transmit only an approximate map of Venus that would show only very big objects. Tass had pointed out that the mission would not include soft landing or transmission of photographs from the surface of Venus as the Soviet Venera 9 and Venera 10 had, because Pioneer Venus-B (the lander) would not survive landing and all transmission of information would stop.
