NASA released a report, requested by the U.S. Congress, on the extended-duration Space Shuttle orbiter. The report examined key aspects of a program that would allow the Space Shuttle to perform Earth-orbital missions for as long as 16 days. An extended-duration orbiter, according to the report, would be of great benefit for space science and technology. It also could prove useful in developing experiments and crew procedures in preparation for the Space Station era. (NASA Release 87-174)
