The first of a series of National Science Teachers Association "Vistas of Science" publications (jointly sponsored with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration), it is designed for junior and senior high school students and the general reader desiring to be kept informed on astronautical matters. The book's 11 chapters discuss the "why" of space exploration, space flight history, launch vehicles, spacecraft, man in space, future space operations, unmanned and manned exploration of the Moon, exploration of the Solar System, and "Beyond the Planets." An entire section is devoted to "Ideas for Projects and Experiments."
