The media covered NASA spokesman Mitch Vames' report that during routine structural inspections of Atlantis in the hangar cracks were discovered on the protective panel joints of the wings. As a result, NASA was strip-ping the special, heat-resistant seals and seeking to discover the source of the cracks. It was uncertain whether the discovery would delay the November launch of Atlantis.
