Pete Conrad demonstrating the Specimen Mass Measurement Device (SMMD),Water Gun and food preparation for the TV cameras. The SMMD was a container with an attached spring and was used to help weigh items in the micro/zero gravity enviroenment on the Workshop. The tensioned spring would oscillate and this was dependent on the mass of the system. It was measured optoelectronically after releasing the spring, and the resulting power converted into the corresponding mass. The Water Gun was used to dispense water by the crew in a variety of situations. The food preparation was demonstrated for the benefit of earth-bound viewers, who interested to see how astronauts went about eating in space.
