[edit] Abstract

This paper gives a general overview of the European BepiColombo mission to Mercury. A summary of the mission objectives as well as the specific objectives of the different instruments is given. The mission concept is introduced first, followed by considerations of the mission analysis and the Mercury environment. All these aspects lead to a specific system design, which is described in detail.
